This is the boring-but-necessary page. kampot.life is a small, independently run publication. We collect as little as we can get away with, and we’re transparent about the bits we do.

Who runs this site

kampot.life is a personal editorial publication run by Artur, based in Kampot Province, Cambodia. For anything in this policy, the contact is hello@kampot.life.

What we collect, and why

Analytics. The site uses Google Analytics to understand which pieces people read, where readers arrive from, and roughly where in the world they are. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and processes a truncated form of your IP address, the pages you visit, the referring site, and your device and browser type. We use this in aggregate — to see, for example, that the Kampot food guide had a good week — not to identify individual readers.

Newsletter signup. If you subscribe to the monthly letter, we collect your email address and, optionally, your first name. That is stored with our newsletter provider and used only to send you the newsletter you asked for. You can unsubscribe from any issue using the link at the foot of every email; that removes you from the list.

Server logs. Our host (Vercel) keeps short-lived request logs as part of normal infrastructure operation. These contain things like IP addresses, timestamps, and the URLs requested. We don’t read them unless we’re debugging a problem.

We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising. We do not build a profile on you to retarget you elsewhere.

Cookies

Cookies on the site come from two places:

  • Google Analytics, for the aggregate reading data described above.
  • A small preference cookie if your browser theme (light or dark) is remembered between visits.

If you’d rather not be measured, modern browsers let you block third-party cookies, and browser extensions like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger will block the analytics script entirely. The site works fine without it.

Third parties we rely on

  • Vercel — hosting and content delivery.
  • Google Analytics — aggregate reading data.
  • A newsletter provider (Substack or equivalent) — list management and delivery of the monthly letter.

Each of these has its own privacy policy, and your data sits with them under their terms when it’s in their hands.

Your rights

You can ask us, at any time, to:

  • tell you what data we hold about you,
  • correct it,
  • delete it,
  • or stop processing it.

Email hello@kampot.life and we’ll handle it. For newsletter unsubscribes specifically, the one-click link at the foot of every email is the fastest route.

Children

The publication isn’t aimed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you think a child has subscribed, write in and we’ll remove the record.

Changes

If we change anything material on this page — a new analytics tool, a new provider, a meaningful change in what we collect — we’ll update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, mention it in the next newsletter.
